Last Updated 03/12/2009 - Stockport Interfaith Week 2009

1. Interfaith Cricket Event - 15th Nov
The Cheadle Muslim Association working with the Stockport Sports Trust and Target Sports organised the Cricket Interfaith event on Sat 15th Nov. The event gave an opportunity for young people to get involved in sport as well as meeting up with other young people of different faiths & cultures all in the aim of building bridges, challenges perceived sterotypes and developing friendships. The mosque is committed to community cohesion and developing dialogue - and through sport is undoubtedly one of the ways to go. Those that attended really did enjoy themselves, with excellent coaches from the Stockport Sports Trust - the weather was dry and gave the budding cricketers a welcome chance to practice their silky skills. It was all rounded off in true CMA style with Tasty Kebabs & Samosas!

2. School Visits
Over 200 school children/scouts attended the mosque over the week - the children had a great time, learning about Islam & Muslims, dressing up in traditional clothes, seeing Wudu - the ablution before prayer, being performed, having a tour of the mosque and of course enjoying Happy Hippos and biscuits to round the visit off. They were also given quiz sheets and colouring sheets to complete on their return to school. Everyone throughly enjoyed the visits - both the children and the helpers; if you would like your school, scout group, (or in fact any community group or council body) to visit the mosque - just drop us a line at the office or email us and we will be happy to accommodate you - the visits are free!!

3. Open Day
The mosque had 2 open days as part of Islam Awareness Week - we had teachers, schools and members of the public dropping in - they had the opportunity to visit the exhibitions and enjoy a nice warm cuppa - nothing better than this to help in developing dialogue!

4. The Status Of Women in Islam
An excellent talk dealing with a "Hot Topic", delivered by Zeina Khayat. All found it most informative and there was an opportunity after over dinner to ask an questions - dinner is always important!

5. Interfaith Football Tournament
Many braved the windy weather and threat of rain to join in the mosque's passion for football! Played on the mosque's own pitch, youngsters were given expert coaching by Seb & Chris from Stockprt Sports Trust - a memorable day and it was great to see the youngsters enthusiam! Chicken & chips for lunch of course, with medals for the winners!

Last Updated 16/08/2009 - FUNDAY EXTRAVAGANZA 2009
Just like last few years, this year again the Funday was a popular day out for the local community. The Fire services, Police, MP Mark Hunter, CMA trustees competing in numerous fun races together with the enthusiasm of the youths.
The day kicked off with a short presentation by Mark Hunter MP and the Mayor of Stockport, followed by a fine array of stalls purveying foods from across the globe.
There was Couss-couss from Morocco, Chicken Cury from Punjab, Pakistani Sweet Rice, Cakes from Ashton, BBQ chicken wings marinated in a unique sauce. Then of course there was the Chocolate fountain and the Burger bar, and don't forget the sweet shop.
Of course there were many stalls - from books to hijabs and clothes, toys and artefacts, there was something for everyone. Then the races began - tug of war and egg and spoon race - even our MP Mark Hunter was in the thick of the action. Our compere - Dawer kept the audience on top of the action MashAllah and brought a smile to many. Then there were the police and the fire service - and the children loved that - they swarmed over their vehicles even taking turns to try on the handcuffs and get locked up in the van.
The bouncy slide was kepy very busy - I dont think it got even a seconds peace.
Inside the mosque, there were mosque tours and presentations, with packs for the children, tours of the mosque and an opportunity to try on traditional dress - it was an opportunity for those who wanted to know what know more about the mosque and the Muslim faith.
The Funday this year raised over 2100 pounds for St Anne's Hospice - and we thank all you who attended and gave so generously.
Alhumdullilah - All praise is to God who made the event so successful and we thank all of those also that volunteered in helping make the day so special.

Last Updated 09/08/2009 - INTERFAITH PICNIC:
A relaxing family picnic, held at Heald Green Methodist Church, Brown Lane, Heald Green, in association with CMA.

Last Updated 05/07/2009 - Stockport Park Clear up:
On a warm sunny day in July, a motly crew from Cheadle Mosque together with volunteers from the Islamic Society of Britain, tackled another park clear up day with Stockport Rangers.

There mission should they chose to accept it - (which they did!) was to clear up a public footpath in Gatley to make it safer for local residents. Using a good dose of elbow grease, loppers and rakes, they swept the foot so that it was almost as clean as your own living room! The Cheadle Crew strike again and are grateful to Phil - The Stockport Ranger who helped organise the event.

Please watch this space, the team will be back in action in November InshAllah.
Don't forget to check out our Image Gallery for some clean pictures

Last Updated 28/02/2009 - PALESTINE - WHAT WENT WRONG? EPISODE II

The monthly talk continued to highlight the issues of the Palestianian-Israeli conflict and provide a factual based account of life in the West Bank. We were privileged to have benefited from an informative talk and fascinating video - The Iron Wall, brought to us by the Palestinian Solidarity Committee - who had been on the ground there and had an objective view of life in the West Bank It was inspiring to see members of the British community speak out against the Human Rights abuses committed by Israeli settlers and the army and the virtual prision created in the West Bank with hundreds of check points making life very difficult for the Palestinians.

Thank you SANDY BROADHURST and MARGARET EVANS of Palestine Solidarity Committee. It is unfortunate that we dont see balanced media reporting on this.

Overall - an inspiring event and excellent video - you MUST watch it! if you didn't come to the event, you can borrow it from CMA.

Last Updated 31/01/2009 - PALESTINE - WHAT WENT WRONG

Br Muhammad Khayat presented a factual based account on the origin of the state of Israel and the background to the current conflict and injustices seen in Gaza. We hope that equipped with such facts we can make sense of the current problems in the Middle East and learn how we in Britain can help address the issues.

MashAllah it was well received by the audience of 100+ who found it very informative. And the NEW REFRESHMENT MENU of crispy chicken and spicy chickpeas went down a treat!

Last Updated 14/11/2008-Manchester's Biggest Cake for Children in Need
click here to see all Pictures from the event
The Islamic Society of Briatin (ISB) teamed up with CMA and Sanam Sweet House to make a massive 16 ft square of sumptous Black Forest Gateau which was sold off after Friday prayer to raise 570 Pounds for Britain's needest children.
The cheque was presented Live on BBC on the 14th November at thc Chill Factor in Manchester by Dr Usman Choudry. Well done to all those brave people who ate the cake to raise much needed funds. An enviable job indeed. May Allah reward you all.

Last Updated 19/09/2008- MUSLIM CEMETERY IN STOCKPORT
Alhamdulillah hard work involving liaison, discussions, meetings, persistence and considerable amount of legwork has finally resulted in a section in Mill Lane Cemetery being set aside for Muslim burials . Mill Lane Cemetery is located next to Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle.

Led by Afzal Chaudhri the team members of this project are Abdul Sattar, Dr Waqar Bhatti, Dr Zulifkar and Munir Ahmed. May Allah reward them all for their time and effort.

We wish to extend our gratitude to Stockport Council's Bereavement Service Manager and his department for being extremely supportive. Our Special thanks are due to our MP Mark Hunter and Councillor Pam King the Mayor of Stockport for their involvement and full support in making this possible.

On Friday 19th September 2008, which was also the 19th Ramadan 1429H, CMA Trustees were invited to mark the ground for the direction of Qibla. It will give guide line to the laying of all the concrete slabs/plinth within this Section. Earlier, in the week Abu Eesa had briefed the Team on the principles of laying the direction of the head stone concrete slab/plinth. For the benefit of our readers - the long slab/plinth follows the Qibla direction. The grave is dug perpendicular to the plinth. The body in the grave is slighly tilted with the face turned towards Qibla. The idea is to bury the body in a shrouded (kafn), not in a box-coffin. The head stones will be laid flat on the concrete slab/plinth and lawn will cover the graves. God willing this burial section will be ready by the end of 2008.

Last Updated 12/09/08- CMA CC IFTAR

Last Updated 24/08/2008- Fun Day Extrvaganza : click here to see Pictures from the event
In it's forth year running, the Funday Extravaganza has made it's mark on the local map, raising money for local worthy causes. The event opens the doors of the mosque and encourages people to find out more about the community and the faith, as this we feel is key to building bridges and developing community cohesion.

This year the mosque was raising morey for The Royal School for the Deaf and Communication Disorders to support their excellent work. The morning, started a bit on the grey side, but with God's blessing the clouds parted giving way to some lovely sunshine. The field was awash with a plethora of different stalls, ranging from Chicken Biriyani to those selling sparkly shoes, as well as the famous Hot Wing BBQ. The Henna and face painting stalls had continuous queues, and the Bouncy slide and castle didn't get a minutes rest! I never knew that children could find a million different ways to come down a slide! The cake and ice cream stalls were a big hit, with Ayesha patenting a new ice cream slush made from melted ice cream!

Our resident MC Dawar, kept the crowds entertained & involved and there were indeed crowds, with hundreds of attendees streaming through on the day. The Wacky Races got the children (average age: 40+)involved in some truly entertaining Olympic events including the Egg & Spoon race, Sack race and Tug of war. There was some hot competition and some muddy trousers along the way but it kept the adults entertained and there should be some consideration of entering our winning team for London 2012.

Sly Smith, a veteran entertainer, performed some great tricks and kept the kids well entertained while Zarif and Khayat gave regular mosque tours. Those that wanted to relax were able to do so outside in the Middle Eastern style marquee, sitting back on the cushions and enjoying mint tea and biscuits.

With all thanks to God, the event was a great success, and we would like to say a big thank you to all those that helped out as well as to all those that attended, ie You (the community), so Thank YOU! Plans are already under way to make the event even more exciting and wacky next year!

CMA wishes to extend its gratitude to all our guests that attended especially our MP Mark Hunter, Cllr Brian Millard, Mayor Pam King, and kids favourite the Fire & the Police Service, and not to forget the ever active Dennis Bishop.

The lessons are well planned and touch upon important concepts and facts which only increase ones certainty about this beautiful religion.

Maashallah approx. over 15 brothers and sisters were present in the last hadith course, with opportunities for questions and answers on concepts which are normally not delved into at this level. Our gratitude to the Shaykh for his time out and organised syllabus. We cannot wait for the next class."

Last Updated 27/07/2008- QIYAM 1: A talk on Strengthening the heart

There were couple of excellent talks on Strengthening the Heart, delivered by Hafidh Fahim and Br Naveed. The much promissed action packed entertainment (Brazilian Ju Jitsu demonstration) was a let down, However they have promissed that they will come down on next Qiyaam.

A short turn out though, only about 40 brothers and 20 sisters turned up, but that was good for those who turned up, as they got 3 PIECES OF KANSAS CHICKEN EACH! Their advise to those who didn't bother... please do the same again!!! so we can get the extra food!!! Download Talk Summary

Last Updated 18/07/2008- CRICKET; "20/20 vs Didsbury Masjid

Last Updated 06/07/2008- CRICKET; CMA vs AMA (episode 3)

A comprehensive 7 wicket win over AMA has placed CMA CC conclusively in a league higher than the visitors. They seriously need to sign up some pro's before they are able to mount any sensible challenge. However as the spirit between the two teams remain strong, and we that must be ready for a fight back by AMA.

Last Updated 28/06/2008- Football fun & BBQ

Mashallah the football knockout tournament and BBQ event at CMA was a fantastic afternoon. Over 100 Cheadle lads turned up... and had more than their fair share of food! But Alhamdulillah it was nice to see all your faces again and it was nice to see many new faces and I hope to see you all again soon.

Inshallah there will be many more events taking place this summer. The next one will be in approximately 3 weeks time - a Qiyaam at the Masjid with an action packed martial arts demonstration.

Last Updated 22/06/2008- Cricket ; Open Session

Open session was held for the brothers only at the Woodford Recreation Ground.

A blustery day didn't dampen spirits as the CMA CC held its regular cricket open session. The turnout was excellent with in excess of 20 brothers attending including a good proportion of youngsters.

For those not in the know, the open sessions provide the community a way of introducing, coaching and playing the wonderful game of cricket. Put it this way, its much better than sat in front of the TV or Playstation on a sunday afternoon. The open sessions allow some of the youth who are not directly involved in competitive matches the chance to play with older players. It also provides a platform for the older players to practise and pass on their pearls of wisdom to the younger ones.
